A Select Distinguished Club

Mississauga Valley was recognized as a Select Distinguished Club for achieving 7 out of 10 of the Distinguished Club Program points in the 2002-03 TM year. As a result Toastmasters International will be sending us a special ribbon for our banner. Kudos to last year's President WHITNEY RODRICKS and her Executive for this achievement.

The Distinguished Club Program is Toastmasters International's system for measuring the performance of Clubs in the areas of education, membership and administration. There are a maximum of 10 points available, and there are 3 levels of awards given: Distinguished (5 or 6 points), Select Distinguished (7 or 8 points), and Presidents Distinguished (9 or 10 points).

We should be proud of our Club for exceeding Toastmasters' minimum standards of excellence, and strive to continue on this path for the coming year!

From the President

Fellow Toastmasters, we are starting a new year with a new executive. We are busy formulating plans for the year, and need all of you to tell us what you want to achieve.  Our motto for the year is "Believe and Achieve"!  If you set goals and believe in yourselves, you will succeed.  Both Evelin and I will be talking to you to learn what your goals are and what we can do to help you!  I am looking forward to a great year at MVTM; we are a good team and will all help each other! My favorite expression is, 'there is no "I" in Team'.

CAROL CROUSE, President

Club News

Mississauga Valley TM club has been recognized by Toastmasters International for our newsletter "Voice of the Valley", which has been named one of the Top Ten Club Newsletters in the World for the 2002-03 year. Congratulations to last year's VPPR and Editor ROSEMARY BRKOPAC for this high honour!

CAROL CROUSE is planning for a Speechcraft session at the Peel Distress Centre, starting in October. She will need help from Club members in putting on this 8-week
workshop, which will give the basics of Toastmasters and speaking to a small group of people. Interestingly, Carol found out about Toastmasters and joined our club as a result of a Speechcraft she attended a few years ago!

Member News

NADIA ZUBRYTSKA hasn't been seen at the Club for the past few months. She has a good reason though, as she just recently gave birth to a new baby girl! Nadia hopes to start coming out to Toastmasters again in a few months when things settle down.

ERIC MATTO recently attended both the Region VI Toastmasters conference in Toronto and the Region V conference near Chicago, Illinois. While Eric was in the Chicago area (where he lived for 4 years and served as District 30 Governor in 2001-02), he also visited his former club Schaumburg Area Toastmasters for its 25th anniversary party.

YICHAO CHEN is leaving the Club and the country in August to go back to school in Houston, Texas. We will miss her, but wish her all the best. Come back and visit us whenever you are in Mississauga, Yichao!

Beyond the Club - Around the Area, Division, District

District 60, the Toastmasters organization for southern/central/northern Ontario, has been recognized as a Presidents Distinguished District for 2002-03, and has been ranked 2nd out of over 75 Districts worldwide. Our District is also celebrating its 45th anniversary this year with a special commemmorative pin to be awarded to any member who achieves an educational or leadership award - CTM, ATM (any level), CL, AL, Excellence in Leadership, DTM. Here's another incentive for Club members to achieve their goals this year!

District 60's Fall 2003 Conference will be held at the Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville, Ontario on October 31 / November 1-2, 2003. Details are at the District 60 website at www.toastmasters60.org and will be printed in the upcoming issue of the District newsletter "Spirit of 60".

ERIC MATTO is helping to sponsor a new advanced club in Mississauga, the Voice of Experience Toastmasters. This Club meets *usually* on the 2nd & 4th Saturdays of each month at the Lorne Park Library, 1474 Truscott Dr. near the QEW / Southdown Rd. interchange. Membership is open only to CTMs and higher, and members must continue to belong to their primary clubs as well.
